2002 Bonneville CV joint question

This is a continuation of my earlier post from early September 2007. The car is a 2002 Bonneville, 3.8L with 122K (automatic). Anyhow I had asked a question concerning vibration during acceleration. Merlin2021 suggested checking front strut and control arm to see if bent. Didn't notice anything, but while checking this I noticed that my CV joint on the passenger side has 1/16" side to side play right at the inner joint (outer joint is solid). I know the axle assembly needs to have angular movement as the suspension moves relative to the frame, but I don't think it is supposed to move side to side. Could this be causing the vibration during acceleration? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Zach-Attack

The inboard joint is spring loaded, you should have no free play! With the axle in place and the strut in place you might be able to push up and down slightly, but not side to side!
