2001 Pontiac Bonneville Please Help dumb woman here!

I have a 2001 bonneville ssei and my check engine light has come on and when I accelerate after I come to a stop my car is chugging and will not get up to speed like usual, and continues this up to about 45 mph, someone told me it could be a fuel pump, but I just wanted to know if someone else has gone thru this before I take it in to get fixed.

What you need to do is get the computer scanned for code/s this is your starting point on finding out what's wrong within the engine management system. Autozone does this service for free

I had the same problems with my Firebird, It was the fuel pump in the gas tank.
