I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville that runs great except for the fact that the transmission acts up once in a while.
The dealer here says that it is a problem with the filter and would cost $600 to repair.
Anyone else have this problem? Will it hurt to keep driving it or do I need repairs right away?
Any info is appreciated!

What symptom are you having with the transmission? Is it slipping, hard shifting etc?

Thanks for replying!
I guess it is what you would call "hard shifting". When it shifts, it has a slight jerk rather than a smooth shift.

That is a symptom of dirty transmission fluid and dirty filter. You can continue driving it like this but it will wear down the transmission very quickly. I do suggest having the filter and fluid replaced as soon as you can afford to do so.

Again, Thanks!
Changing the filter and fluid is not a $600 job as the dealer indicated is it?

Should be able to get it done around $200 at a local reputable tranny shop. doesn't have to be done at the dealer. an estimate is below including labor for removing and replacing your vehicle's transmission filter and pan gasket. just add price of the fluid and that will be about what you should pay ( approx. $200 ).
