The power steering rack is cracked and power steering fluid leaks out constantly. I have to replace power steering fluid everyday. A mechanic told me that it would cost around 500.00 to fix and he recommended to just replacing power steering fluid. Is this accurate?

He prob would just replace the fluid. However if you happen to live in a state that has inspection it will never pass. I personally would replace the rack after all this is your steering you are talking about.

You can check with shops around and get the best deal you can and save money. But replacing the fluid is expensive and also very dangerous to let that fluid build up under your car the convertors alone can ignite the oil.

So no not accurate and no mechanic with any pride or concern for your safety should ever tell you that. Good luck
