My alarm went off by itself and inserting the key in the ignition and starting the engine did not stop it. The motor would not keep running and the alarm continued. The panic button on the keyless entry would not stop it either. I manually operated the key in the door locks and for some reason the alarm stopped. Don't know if there is a connection. Now the alarm is off, but when I start the vehicle all the digital transmission indicator letters on the dash board are highlighted and the van will not shift out of first gear. Can I disable the alarm system and reset the onboard computer?

Your alarm should have a valet switch somewhere on the inner firewall inside of the van usually on the drivers side. Try switching the switch to valet while the key is in the on position not start. Then turn the key to off position. To reset the on board computer you will need a code scanner, or you can go to auto zone and the can reset the computer. To turn the alarm on again just flip the switch back to the on position with the key in the on position. I hope this helps, good luck. Robert (1968)
