I got cut off by some maniac driver the other day and by slamming on my brakes as hard as possible my gears locked up. I can't engage in any gear other than neutral. When placed into park I hear a short but kinda loud crackling friction noise, like something's caught or whatever. When I turn off the ignition, start it up again with it in park I hear nothing (noise only happens when the car is running, disengaged from park then put it back in park). I heard it could be seized calipers, the axle or something wrong with the transmission altogether. I just want some answers - this whole thing has me infuriated. Please help me!!!

Welcome to the forum, have a helper start the vehicle, foot on brake, e-brake set, put in drive, while you raise the hood, try to look at the halfshaft axle, if it is turning, the axle may be broken or one of the halfshaft joints, inner or outer.

Thanks for replying back!

I'm waiting for a friend of a friend who claims to know something about cars to come over and check it out. I'll be sure to do this. Just biding my time until a real mechanic is able to check it out.
