1993 Plymouth Voyager charging system

1993 Plymouth Voyager 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

system was over charging, took to shop, said charging system computor bad. They replaced it @ $250 plus labor battery went dead next day. Dues it have a computor for the alt., Or was I riped off. I thought they had builtin regulators. Please advise. Thank you. Ewald

The voltage regulator is built in to the alternator. There are controls in the ECM, the engine computer, to manage the alternator's output, but replacing it is probably far more than a $250 job. The alternator itself can overcharge if the voltage regulator is bad.
