Electrical problem
1991 Other Plymouth Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 200k+ miles

My Plymouth Sundance has an issue with the drivers side blinker and brake light not coming on. It had a problem with the whole drivers side tail light area going out whenever I turned on the blinker when my lights were off (brake light is fine, but dim) and the whole drivers side tail light area going out when the blinker or when I brake when my lights were on. I've checked the bulb by buying a new one. Both have the same problem. My entire passenger side is fine.

Later, I tried the ground. I undid the splicing on that socket for the grounding wire and put it on a screw on the body. This changed how the problem functioned. When my lights are off and I hit my brakes the light does not come on, nor does the blinker. When my lights are on, neither my blinker nor brake lights come on, but the whole drivers side tail light does not wink off.

Does anyone know what this might be?

Hi:
It does sound like a bad ground. Have you checked the body ground coming off the battery? Also, try to ground the light to the frame of the car. If that doesn't help, we may have to consider the signal switch or a short.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
