2000 Plymouth Neon Engine problems

Once in a while the engine will die while idling, it's not all the time, just once in a while. And also, while I'm driving, it will jerk. Almost like shutting off, but coming immediately back on. What is going on? My engine light is comes on whenever it jerks as well. How do I fix this?

The CEL coming On is an indication of a problem within the engine management system to find out scanned the computer for code/s this is your starting point of diagnosis-Autozone provides this service free
