I bought a 1997 Plymouth Breeze with 147k miles on it. It ran well for a week and then it started to slow down on me while on the road and not even move when I press on the accelerator. It would jerk and move for a 20 or 30 feet or so after I would press on the accelerator for a little bit longer and then it would die on me again. On top of that it also started to make a sqealing sound when I press on the gas. Someone told me it is the fuel filter which is causing the problem. Do you think if I replaced the fuel filter it would solve the problem? What about the squealing noise? I would really appreciate an experienced answer. Thanks.

The squealing noise sounds like a loose belt. As far as the engine, it could be a filter or the pump itself. Has the check engine light ever come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure?
