I've seen speedo problems listed but nothing with this description.
This problem is very intermittent. Once in a while the speedo (electric) quits. I noticed by accident that when the lights are on when it fails, it works when I put on my high beams (I also cannot get the highbeam indicator to work. The bulb is fine). Switch back to low beams and it quits.
When the speedo fails while the lights are off I came up with an idea. I pulled the highbeam lever up to the point where it just flashes the highbeams on for signaling. At that point the speedo works until the lever is released again and the lights turn off.
I don't understand how the lights can be connected to the speedo operation.
I really hate these new electronics in car. The OLD cars were easy to diagnose.

Haha I agree to much electrical stuff in newer cars.
Well if it was my car the first thing I would try is changing the blinker/brights switch, since that seems to mess with it. I would get it from the local salvage yard, incase its not the problem. My brothers car had a problem kinda like that but it was the break lights that quit. Changed the turn signal switch and it was fine. Why they ran the break lights through that is beyond me. Anyways let me know if it works. Hope it helps
