Getting into hot, closed car, I held the down window buttons at the same time as turning the key to start engine. There was a puff of smoke from near the ignition switch. Turned off key and smoke stopped. Turned it back on and started engine OK. Windows would not operate. Heater/AC fan would not operate. Air bag and parking brake fault ON. Turn off heater fan and Air bag and brake fault lights go out. 30 AMP fuse for heater OK. CB for windows. Lights and radio work normal. No voltage to heater fuse as key activated. Is there a common connection or relay to look for?

Hi:

There isn't a common problem pertaining to this that I'm aware of. If the vehicle doesn't have an airbag, you will need to remove the steering wheel and work your way down the column to look for a short. If it smoked, there should be some indicator which wire caused the problem.
