My mother's SUV is a 1500 Z71. A couple of months ago when my mother first bought it the fuel pump went out. Needless to say it was replaced but immediately when it was we cranked it to start and it would not start. So we did some further investigation and found out the PCM fuse was blown. Easily enough we put in a new one. But immediately it was blown again. It got towed to a mechanics shop and was "supposedly" fixed for $600.00 later (including labor price for fuel pump). It was all good until three months later we were on a five hour road trip heading into North Texas and literally almost died on a highway turn because our brakes failed because of a bad ball bearing which caused the CV Axle to break and brake fluid to leak. Either way $900.00 and a whole day staying at some cheesy motel we were on the road again. Nearly an hour later. The suburban turns off. That fuse was blown again. Long story short two days later it gets towed back to the shop. The same mechanic finds a way to turn it back on by using a dang wire that plugs into where fuse goes while key is in "on" position and you hear a little click and then you can put a new fuse in. That is not an efficient way since my mother drives it and she cannot reach the engine bay plus when the fuse blows the steering locks up making it very hard to turn and maneuver for an older woman. Not to mention it is dangerous. What can be causing the fuse to get blown? It happens at random. It can get blown after one day or one month. I really need help debating on whether to sell it or not. It also needs a control arm, rear struts, has a small oil leak, and also forgot to mention it had an aftermarket radio that was put in by the people who owned it it before and it had to to be taken out because it was put in without a harness and they did not know how to wire the speakers so they just added one by plugging it in. Also, forgot to mention everything under the dash was a mess. My mother and I really want it but financially it is costing us too much. What should we do? Any advice on where the short could be or if we should just sell it?

From what you describe it is a short in wiring probably or something like module/ignition switch is drawing too many amps to blow the fuse. I would get rid of it because you cannot do the work yourself and the problems it is facing. The wiring issue under the dash could be your reason the fuses keep blowing as well.
