Hi,

My wife's car rear door locks don't work at all. Both the right and left only work manually not electrically. I read somewhere that Nissan's have a Passenger Side Select Unlock Relay. If so, could someone tell me where it is?

Thank You

Hi,

I just looked through all schematics involving the power locks, and see nothing related to an unlock relay. In all honesty, I don't ever remember seeing one, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Here is what I found. If you look at pic 1, I attached a pic of the actuators. Note that they receive power from the same places as the front.

If you look at pic 2, I attached a pic of the power supply to the body control module and there isn't an unlock relay.

The last pic is a portion of the body control module, which supplies power to the front doors and the rear. So, if the front works, I suspect either there is a break in the wiring at the rear or the actuators are bad.

Here is what I suggest. Remove the rear door panels and locate the door lock actuator. There will be two wires connected to it. One wire will get power when "lock" is selected, and the other will get power when "unlock" is selected. I need you to confirm there is power to the actuators.

If there is power, the actuator is bad. If there is no power, we need to start tracing wires to see where the open is located and repair.

Here are directions for removal of the rear panels on the doors. The attached pics correlate with these directions.

REAR DOOR FINISHER

Removal
1. Release the pawl at the rear edge and remove inside release handle escutcheon, then remove the screw.
2. Remove the armrest finisher as follows:

CAUTION:
If not removed properly, the door armrest finisher clips may be damaged: making it hard to properly reinstall the part.

Pic 4

a. Insert a suitable tool and twist, gently lifting up at rear of armrest finisher to release outboard pawls (A).

Pic 5

b. Gently lift up on the rear of the armrest finisher to release the inboard pawls (B).

Pic 6

c. Support the armrest finisher at the pull grip part of the armrest finisher while gently lifting the armrest finisher straight up to release the pull grip pawls and clip (C), then remove the armrest finisher (1).

CAUTION:
Do not twist, pull the armrest straight up to remove.
3. Remove the rear power window switch finisher. See: Power Window Switch > Removal and Replacement > LH Only Anti-Pinch-Sedan.
4. Remove the rear door finisher screws beneath the arm rest finisher and the rear power window switch finisher.
5. Release the clips around outer edge, then reposition the rear door finisher.
6. Disconnect inside release handle and lock knob cables from the back of rear door finisher, then remove rear door finisher.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
When installing the armrest finisher, perform the following:

pic 7
1. Align and press the armrest finisher clip (D) and pawl (B), into the front door finisher.

Pic 8

2. Align and press out and down to seat the pull grip pawls and the inboard pawls.
