Two weeks ago I got a bank 2 o2 sensor code and the transmission range sensor code. I forgot the o2 sensor code and fixed the transmission range sensor code that day. The place I had pull them erased em before I could figure out the o2 sensor code.

I just got this code yesterday it hesitates on take off. Severe low rough idle (worse in R or D) try to stall.
this problem started after I did an oil change, air filter, and replaced the thermostat gasket, housing, and thermostat.
I noticed it was missing really bad and I heard a vacuum leak so I wound up finding a few places that were leaking. I had 3 vacuum hoses leaking as well as the intake manifold.

Things I have done to it since I am a new owner and don't really know what's been done just what was told:

Oil change(high mileage full synthetic)
Oil filter (high mileage)
Air filter
Spark plugs (x6 double platinum)
Replaced coil pack (1) the other 5 were brand new
Upper and lower intake Manifold gaskets.
Throttle body gasket
IAC gasket
Injector o ring replacement
Thermostat gasket
Thermostat housing(all 3 of these dealing with the thermostat are due to my gasket blew)
Thermostat
All new radiator hoses
Radiator
Cleaned the throttle body
Going to clean the iac and check the maf sensors today
Transmission range sensor(faulty and had stored code)
New water pump
Replaced some vacuum lines that were leaking

I did buy a o2 sensor for this code just in case I have not swapped it out yet. I got to replace my transmission mount today, fill my power steering reservoir up with transmission fluid, replace the elbow for the pressure line today, and replace the pcv valve and the entire hose (from crankcase to intake)today.I am going to clean my EGR valve today.

I have not checked live data waiting on my buddy to bring his reader over(it's better than mine). Just like everyone else I am starting to become irritated with my truck.

Tests I have tried:
I ran resistance on iac valve -10.1ohms.

I have unplugged - terminal unplugged iac valve reconnected the battery and started truck (IAC was unplugged) truck ran fine for a few seconds than right back to how it was.
result- no noticeable changes.

Same process as above with the battery. Unplugged the TPS with battery disconnected, started truck after connecting battery left TPS unplugged, ran normal for a few minutes then dropped off again back to the same.

Results: noticeable change in condition for a few minutes, than back to no changes.

I think this is everything might be a few other things I can't think of right now.

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi,

Is the P2197 the only code that is set at this time? It indicates a lean fuel mixture. I realize you checked for vacuum leaks, but I need you to try checking for leaks using carb cleaner. Follow the directions in this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-an-engine-vacuum-gauge

If there are no leaks, then check the fuel pressure to confirm it is within the manufacturer's specs. Here is a link that shows in general how it is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Take a look through the attachments below, They are the diagnostics specific to the code you indicated. You'll note much of it is what I suggested above and what you have done.

The last pic below provided the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications. Confirm your vehicle is within the specs.

I hope this helps. Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

So I did all the above that you had recommended. There were no vacuum leaks at all. I also checked the fuel pressure it was within specs of the manufacturer.

After I done all that I decided to do a compression test after the engine was at operating temp dry an wet these are the results:

Cylinder (1) 180
Cylinder (2) 180
Cylinder (3) 90
Cylinder (4) 180
Cylinder (5) 150
Cylinder (6) 180

During the wet test the results stayed the same.
So I started inspecting the head gaskets noticed that on Cylinder (3) it is Leaking some so I am going to wind up replacing the head gaskets and sending my heads out for inspection. While they are off I am going to be inspecting my rings and pistons.

Is Cylinder (5) okay?

Hi,

Ford doesn't provide specific pressures. What they tell us is the lowest must be at least 75% of the highest cylinder. In this case, the lowest can be 135 PSI, so you are okay on that one.

If cylinder 3 didn't change when you checked it wet, it isn't the rings. It could be the leak or an issue with a valve.

If you get a chance, let me know how things turn out for you.

Take care,

Joe
