Hello and Welcome to 2CarPros. P0442 is a small leak in the EVAP system. It could be anything from a pinhole in a line, bad gas cap seal, or one of the other EVAP related items causing the leak. The first step would be to get a shop to run a smoke test. This involves pumping smoke into the EVAP system and looking for the spot where it leaks out. The catch to this is that a can be a bear to find at times depending on location. So it could take an hour or so to actually find it. One thing to check yourself would be the gas cap, look at the seal on it as well as the filler neck. Is the seal in good shape with no cracks? Is the filler neck clean with no rust or other damage? Both of those can cause a small leak.

As for price, likely at least an hour of shop time plus any parts needed. So between $100.00 and $300.00 if it's something common and they get around $100.00 an hour. If it's something uncommon like a cracked fuel tank or bad canister then it can go up quite a bit.
