Code P0340, camshaft sensor location needed

Good morning,

That is the only location for the sensor. I attached a general picture of the location. It has to be along where the camshaft turns to pick up the revolutions.from the cam.

Thanks Roy. from the car it has one each from each side at the front. there was a time the car came up with p1110 and it refers to those front ones. after fixing it it gave P0340,which indicates camshaft sensor. all the videos on YouTube shows it has been at the back of the cylinder for other truck, but this 2001 pathfinder 3.5L does not have any at the back, yet the car goes on and off while driving it. I am frustrated.

I would not rule out a timing belt issue.

Codes never identify bad parts just failed systems.

I understand but I would get a scan tool and make sure there is a signal from the sensor to the PCM.

Got it, but they could still be worn and the crank and cam signals could be out of sync.

Though the chain makes some noise, could it be the cause?

Yes it could.

You need a scan tool that can read live data to see if that signal is not the same as the cranks sensor.

After a while, I coupled the engine, crank it severally, it starts but goes off in few minutes and it takes serious cranking before it comes on again. I re-scanned and it is showing P1110, the P0340 had disappeared. what can I do?

The 110 is also for the sensor.

You need a scan tool. If you do not have one then I suggest having someone check it for you.

I have and Odb Ii and it is the tool that shows all these codes.

Is it a code reader or an advanced scan tool that can read live data?

The advanced tools are expensive. They can run thousands of dollars.

But from what I heard and learnt, the 2001 Pathfinder do not have cam sensor at the back like others but only those two fixed at the front. any objection to this?

There needs to be a signal for the cam position for the PCM.

I sent you the picture of the location. Both Alldata and Mitchel show the same picture, same location.
