Hi,

The code is related to the crankshaft position sensor, which you mentioned. It is required to properly be operating for the vehicle to run correctly or run at all. The PCM receives either no signal or an incorrect signal from the sensor for this code to be set.

To answer your specific questions, certainly, it can cause the engine to idle roughly or have a loss of power. However, it has to be somewhat functional for the engine to run.

On the other hand, I don't feel it would cause the engine to run louder.

Are there any other codes that are set? If not, then I would suggest clearing the code to see if the same code returns. If it does, replace the sensor and make sure the wiring and connectors are in good condition.

I attached the directions below for replacing the sensor. If that doesn't resolve the issue, we need to dive deeper into diagnostics to confirm it isn't an issue with the PCM.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

joe

See pics below. Note: Installation is the reverse of removal. Once you have the retaining bolt removed, gently pull on the sense while twisting it back and forth. You may want to use penetrating fluid to help it come out more easily. If it breaks, it can be difficult to remove.
