Overheating

The shop has had my car now for six weeks and cannot figure out why it is overheating. The thermostat has been replaced as well as the hoses. When you drive it it will get hot then go back down then get hot again. The shop said there was air in the lines. They tried to get the air out of the lines but it is still overheating. What can be the problem? I need my car back!

Make sure the cooling fan or fans do run when the engine gets hot. To even eliminate the possibility or air still in the cooling system and the chance that the thermostat is sticking. I would just remove the thermostat for now and see if it stops overheating. If it does, then replace the thermostat again. If it does still overheat, leave the thermostat out for now, then move onto trying something else, possibly suspecting the water pump just cannot produce the volume of coolant flow that the engine needs and replace it.
