Overheated engine, will head sealers or engine sealers fix it?

My car overheated due to an old water pump. My mechanic at first said I needed a motor but ended up, he put some engine sealers and it was working fine for 2 days and said come by. Is this a fix that will be able to maintain in the long run? Or is this just a temporary and should I start getting ready to buy a new motor?

It is impossible to tell if a head sealer will be a long-term fix, it can go either way. Did he say why it needed an engine, is the head gasket blown? What kind of test were done and what did that tell us?

I just spoke with him now. He said the head gasket is messed up or something like that. Like 1 and 4 are okay, but 2 and 3 were a little messed up. He said he has been driving it for 2 days everywhere and everything is holding up still. I think he said he checked on the check engine light machine. He said 2 and 3 are yellow.

You might be okay then, does the car have any trouble codes? I am not sure what 2 and 3 yellow means? Does the engine over heat?
