Overfilled motor oil

Going to get oil change tomorrow, will it be okay to drive to my mechanic, twelve miles?

How overfull is it? If is it only slightly overfull, it should be okay. If you have several quarts too much in it, that can cause problems. If that is the case, drain some out until it is at the full level.

Thanks Joe. Just went back outside it was dark when I put oil in I checked dip stick level first dot I think I spilled oil on out side of engine looked on ground saw the oil. Will that damage anything?

Hi:
If you spilled it, you should be fine. It may smoke or stink for awhile, but that is about it. The only concern I would have is if the oil has pooled on an exhaust manifold, catalytic converter or an exhaust component. Oil has a very high flash point, but it can burn. Just make sure to do your best to wipe everything off. When the engine is cool, you may want to use a cleaner to eliminate any residual oil. I assume you didn't over fill the engine, correct?
