2001 Other Opel Models engine light

I drive an opel vita, engine light comes on just after 3km and car has lost power. My friend has the same car the light comes and engine sometimes goes off while driving. Please help me, whats the problem.

The engine management system has logged a fault code, you will need to get a scan done to identify this code, your mechanic can then advise you or post the code here for further assistance.
