94 Olds Delta 88 Question

I have recently purchased a 94 Olds Delta 88 Royale. It has the 3.8 v6 and has 82400 miles. How do I use a diagnostic code key to figure out the error code. A guy at Auto Zone gave it to me to help me with my problem. I have found the plug under the dash but am not sure how to use the key. Can you help?

Look at the ALDL connector, you will see that there are two terminals side by side with the area in between them notched out, jump these together and turn the key on, coutn the flashes, you will get for a code 22 two flashes then a pause then 2 more flashes, At the end of the codes I believe you get a 12!
