Engine Performance problem
1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue Automatic 125000 miles

I just bought this intrigue. I think it has a v6 engine but I don't know for sure. It says dual on the engine. It is burning through oil. My machnic says it is a sign that is engine is starting to wea out and as long as I am only adding 1 bottle of oil between oil changes I don't need to worry. They won't replace the enginge and suggested I but a new car, but not to worry about it. I am wondering if it is possible to get a new engine or a rebuilt one isnstead of buying a new car? How long do you think it will last or do I need to start thinking about getting another car. I have had it 2 months.

Thanks

LeAnn

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

Most cars use a little oil between oil changes. 1 quart of oil is nothing to worry about. My vehicle uses 1 quart of oil every 3k miles and she is still as strong as the day I got her (now has 130k miles). Your engine will be fine as long as you keep the oil changed regularly and keep an eye on the oil level periodically as well. I would not even think about getting a new engine at this point.
