The oil was changed about a month and 1/2 ago. A week ago the oil light flickered off and on and it was dry but the light for it did not fully come on. It puttered a little but did not die. The oil was dry but it also had a very light smell of gas in it. But we were able to start it. On the 18th of january I had checked the oil and it showed full but the car acted like the alternator was going bad because the lights were going dim and the car was acting up a little. Then about a mile down the road I was not able to accellerate. The car was puttering again and starting to die. Finally it died. The oil light came on about 5 seconds before it died, along with the service engine soon light and the battery light. I had put oil in it and then it showed full. I was able to start the car right up but it had a loud noise to it and sounded like something was grinding and being tore up.I tried to put it in gear and it died. I attempted it again and it did the same thing. It would not move. I had it towed and we tried to start it later that day and it had the same noise but would not even start. There are no oil leaks anywhere but it might be burning it. We tried to start it today, the 19th, but it would not start even though it was trying to turn over. It would not fully turn over. We are now at a loss for ideas of what we can do to get it running again.

Rule out the battery 1st and then disable the ignition system to prevent it from starting, find the oil sending unit remove it and hook up an oil pressure gauge, crank engine over for 10 secs-do you have oil pressure?
