Does it only do it when the car is at an idle or at any time? Also, have the check engine light come on?

It does it when I start the car when it is hot, yesterday the check engine light came on for the first time.

Actually, the check engine light is a good thing. It will help identify the problem. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Let me know what they tell you. Note: Most parts stores will do it for free.
