1988 Oldsmobile Ciera car will not start

Had the car for 3 yrs no problems until sept 1st 09. Was using the car & shut it off at home, 10 mins later tried to start it. It would not turn over, all the accessories worked, I cleaned the posts and tried to boost it, no go. 5 days later I returned home and it started, have not had any problems until today, same thing happened. Can you help me

When the problem occurs, can you tell if there is a load on the starter circuit? Watch the lites when you try to crank, if no reaction from the lites, open starter circuit, possible problem with neutral switch? The purple wire at starter solenoid should be hot with key in the crank position. You need to test when problem is ongoing.
