I have a recent problem with my oil pressure. When started, the pressure is fine (40+) and if I let it idle (600 RPM) for any length of time I get no drop. However, after driving distances/highway and going back to local driving and the RPM's return to idle, the oil pressure returns to 40 but then drops rapidly and I get the "check gauges", then the "low oil pressure" and "stop engine" warnings. If I give it more RPM (even another 200 RPM) it returns between 40-50. I had the oil pressure sensor replaced and had STP added to my 10w30 oil - but it still acts up. My mechanic says its worn bearings but I have no noise and it runs smooth. I did have an oil change and the problem started after that so I suspect an incorrect oil filter. Also, when the pressure is a problem I shut down the engine and it shuts down hard. I cannot find anyone that knows what this problem is. Can anyone help?
