Engine Performance problem
2003 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

when accelerating tach goes up but car does not go faster unless I feather back on pedal and then press down again, also have whistling sound when accelerating

First do a really good visual inspection of the vacuum hoses, around the throttle body and take a look at the "accordian" hose going from the air box to the throttle body, for cracks/tears. Also, I'm thinking you have a fault in the tps(throttle position sensor.

If there is a check engine light on, have it scanned at the parts store or autozone, (free) and bring the codes back to me
