Engine Performance problem
1999 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 130K miles

This has just happened to me, I just bought the car too. Talked to previous owner and the car has never done this before. Took the care to Advanced Auto Parts and they hooked it up to the computer which gave me the Insufficient EGR Flow part of my problem, but now the car has stopped working and will not turn over. The car did this to me the other day and after sitting for about 8 hrs it started back up just fine, but now after doing the same today it still will not start. When I did get it started after it first died today it would not go over 2-3 mph. I hit the gas to get going but it barely creeped. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a bunch of money to spend to fix a bunch of unrelated problems to still have it not work.

When it acts up try below

If the engine's condition is in tip top shape-do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem that's if its cranking over and refuses to start

Get a carb cleaner and spray into the carb or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and die? If not disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors-

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time
