Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Oldsmobile 88 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

What, if any, components in the computer module can fail and cause the car engine to stop whilr running and not restart.

Please confirm whether this this age car uses ODB I codes. I have ODBII equipment and software.

Are there Operational Function and Diagnostic Procedures available online and where.

Can the entire comuter be replaced and what is the expected price assuming used.

Are replacement instruction available online and where.

Per my mother the car engine stopped dead in the road. It will turn over but not start. Someone suggusted to her a computer chip was bad.

Cranks and will not start-Do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem-not too fast on the computer

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine at least 3/16 away from ground -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it.
