Oil pressure light comes on only when car has been driven for an extended period of time, and the engine is hot.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

This can be the result of low pressure or a bad oil pressure switch. If you hear ticking or knocking when the light comes on, that is a problem. If you do not, chances are the pressure switch is bad.
To determine if the switch is bad, I would suggest getting a mechanical gauge and checking to see if the pressure is actually low. Most parts stores will lend you the gauge. Basically, you remove the electric switch that is there now and reinstall a mechanical switch.

Here are the directions for removal of the switch and replacement. Also, the attached picture attached shows where the sensor is located.

IL PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH
REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle.
2. Position oil collecting container under pressure switch location.
3. Disconnect oil pressure switch electrical connector and remove switch (Fig. 115).

INSTALLATION
1. Install oil pressure switch and connect electrical connector (Fig. 115).
2. Lower vehicle.
3. Start engine and allow to run a minimum of 2 minutes.
4. Shut engine off and check engine oil level. Adjust level as necessary.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
JOe
