I just changed the oil in my car. I used 1 quart lucas and 6 quarts non synthetic 5w-30 along with a K and N oil filter. After driving for an hour my check engine light comes on and I realize my oil pressure is lower than normal and gets lower the longer it's at an idle. The oil pressure builds back up when the rpm's are high then slowly drops back down.

Hello,

This sounds to me like you have too much oil your system and your oil pump is struggling to keep up. In the diagrams below I have included a chart showing not only the oil type that your vehicle should be using but the capacity of your vehicle's oiling system. I have also included a couple of links below for you to go to below:

Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to figure out.

Thanks,
Alex

On that image you have selected LS 400. I've looked up the LX470 several times and it calls for 7.2 quarts with filter. Everywhere I look that's what is called for. I've checked over and over. There isn't too much oil. What else could cause this? I will have a better idea when I can put it on the scanner tomorrow at work, but, I got to get there.

Hello again,

I'm sorry. That's my bad, I misread what vehicle you had. You are correct, the oil capacity of your vehicle is 7.2 qts. Okay, the only thing I can see here is two options. One, the Oil Stabilizer is making the viscosity of the oil too thick for your oil pump to circulate properly, or two, your oil pump is going out. Another thing, this sounds stupid, but did you make sure that there was nothing inside the oil filter that would be a restriction to the oil flow? Please keep us informed as to what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
