So, my truck started pouring out oil one day. So, we took it to a mechanic and the mechanic told us it was the rear main seal. So, we grinned and bared it and looked up how to do it. Long story short, it wasn't the rear main seal, it ended up being the oil pan gasket, which is not good because we already slid the transmission out to get the seal. Now we are trying to figure out from this position how to get to the oil pan gasket? Lift the motor up and slide it out? Please help! My truck is in pieces and my business is suffering. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You do have to lift the engine a bit to remove the pan. Believe it or not, it needs to be lifted less than 2 inches.

If you look at the attachments below, I provided the directions for oil pan/gasket replacement. Since you already have the transmission removed, it will cut out part of the work because the directions indicate the flex plate needs to be removed as well.

The directions include torque specs and tightening sequence.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Would it make sense that after we figured out how to get the gasket on that the oil filter would leak? I assume we have to get a new one, which we are working on getting.

Hi,

The oil filter? It shouldn't. If you replace it, just make sure the old o-ring doesn't stick to where it mounts. Lubricate the new filter o-ring, and then tighten by hand as tight (by hand) as you can get it.

Let me know if that helps.

Do you have the information of what bolts go where? The problem I'm having is that someone else took the bolts off, and I don't know what bolts go where. Now do you have ones that show like the number of what kind of bolt it is?

You've been really helpful, and I really appreciate the help. I just want to get my truck running again, and you've been like I said really helpful. At the moment there are no more leaks, but we're trying to get all the bolt in the right spots, because we don't know where they went.

Hi,

I'm sorry, but the manuals don't indicate the type of bolt. However, if you take a few pics of what you have, I may be able to give you some ideas.

Let me know.

I think we figured out the bolt situation but now, when we turn on the truck it sounds like a boat. With like a rumbling sound. We have the catalytic converter on the truck but maybe some bolts got loose? Thoughts? Ideas?
