I'm trying to change the oil and oil filter on my wife's vehicle and can't get the cap off the oil filter housing and all I have is some channel locks and oil filter wrench. Is there any way to use those to get the cap off the housing with either one of those?

Hello,

In order to get the oil filter housing off you will have to use a specific tool.
This is the part# 09228-06501. It can be purchased from online or your local parts store might have it as well.
You might be able to take it off with a large enough channel lock, but you might damage the housing.

Here is a very good video of the process for the RAV4:

The total capacity is 6.4 quarts of oil.
I have attached the complete procedure for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.
