I had an oil change yesterday. My oil filter was pinched unbeknownst to me and today when I went out my vehicle was sputtering and would not go over 40 MPH. I went back to the drive-in service that did my oil change and they said the air filter was pinched but they fixed it. Now the car isn't sputtering but my check engine light is on and is reading a cylinder 3 misfire code (per AutoZone code is reading to replace spark plugs or ignition coils). Did the air filter being pinched cause this damage?

Hi,

The idea that the air filter was pinched, was likely causing the issue. Tell me, do you feel a misfire? Does the check engine light blink when driving?

If you don't feel a misfire and the light doesn't blink, chances are you can delete the code and the light will turn off and stay off.

Let me know if it is running smoothly now and if the light flashes.

Take care,

Joe

I do not feel a misfire but the next day it started doing the same thing, not going over 40 and sputtering. When driving the light flashes then goes solid and goes between those 2.

Hi,

We have a misfire issue then. If the light flashes, that is when it is happening.

What we need to do is have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes.

Here is a video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scan tool, but most parts stores will do it for you free of charge. If you could, have that done and let me know what codes are found.

Take care and I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.
