Not shifting from 2nd to 3rd

My Sportage is an automatic. When the weather is hot out, it won't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It doesn't happen in the winter or when the weather isn't real hot. The majority of time it runs just fine.

Check for trouble codes. Seems a solenoid could be malfunctioning intermittently and it could be due to a poor connection somewhere that is affected by heat.

Thanks so much. Actually the car belonged to my Mom who passed away 2 months ago and she had told me it's been doing that for years. I'll pass your answer on to my sister who's going to try to get it taken care of so we can sell it. I really appreciate your help!
