When I give the car gas it won't go. It is like the transmission has gone out and the RPM's will only go up to 3,000 at full throttle. Finally got it home and after letting it cool off it took full throttle and my drove it out the road and back it done fine. What could be wrong with my car?

Hi,

Do you mean the engine revs and the car doesn't move? Does it seem like the transmission is slipping?

Let me know.
Joe

Yes, I press on the gas and the car will barely move. No the transmission isn't slipping. At first I thought that it was the transmission too but that isn't the problem.

After it sit in the driveway for an hour my son revved the motor and it finally started raising the RPM's up while giving it fuel. Then he took it out for a drive to check it and said it did fine. Could it have been just a glitch or the catalytic converter going out?

Hi,

Anything is possible. Since the engine wasn't revving and not it is, it could be related to a few things. I attached a couple pics below indicating different components that could have been related. I'm surprised the check engine light didn't come on if one of them were causing it.

If it happens again, let me know. If the check engine light is presently staying on while it's running, have the computer scanned for codes. Most parts stores will do it free of charge. If that happens, let me know what codes are retrieved and I'll try my best to help.

Take care,
Joe

The check engine light has been on for a long time. We put it on the code reader today and it says no codes were found. I drove it to the store today and it did fine had no problems. Whatever it was maybe it fixed itself or whatever. But will keep you posted. Thanks Joe.
