Transmission problem
1995 Nissan Truck 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 200K miles

I have a 1995 Nissan 4X4 XE V6 (Automatic). Sometime ago my reverse slowly went out. It was a gradual process. I haven't yet repaired it. Now, forward driving is starting the same. When the truck is cold, it takes a minute or so for it to work into gear. As a matter of fact, I actually pull out of my driveway in 1st, then 2nd, and ultimately bump it up to drive. Oddly enough, on a warm or hot day it goes right into gear without needing to warm up. QUESTION: Is there a psrt to the drive train like a solenoid, pressure plate, or other type of device that needs to pressure up before the tranmission goes into gear? I thought originally I needed to replace the whole transmission, but recently I read about similar problems with close year Nissan Pathfinder. I read about the "valve body" the filter, and that possibly the tramission line pressure is too low. Even if that's the case, is it possible to be pressured enough for the drive gears, but too low for reverse? If your answer helps save me money, I'll donate more!

Could be a valve body and or line pressure problem. Nissan trans coolers have screens in them that plug up and create excessive heat and line presures are affected.I suggest by-passing the factory trans cooler and using a high quality aftermarket cooler. One that looks like a little radiator, not the ones that are just a tube bent back and forth like in the older cars. A trans service (fluid and filter) is something that should be done on a regular basis, I do mine every 25k. Cant promise it will fix it, especially if it has been driven for any amount of time with a gear not working properly, but it is worth a try
