Got any fairly inexpensive tips? And is there anyway to tell if NOX emissions are being reduced without expensive testing equiptment? Thanks

There's an emission control device in your system called EGR its primary purpose is to reduce oxides of nitrogen-check it out might not be opening due to carboned-up.
