Hi,

I have NIssan sentra 96 with 100 K miles on it. The engine cehck light comes up quite often with PO400 code which means EGR overflow malfunction.

There is no prblem as such while driving. What should I do? : (

The EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation.

Exhaust gas is routed back into the combustion chamber because the exhausted air is much hotter than the intake air, By sending warmer gas into the combustion chamber, the air/fuel mix does not have to do as much work to heat up, and your engine runs more efficiently.

The reintroduction of exhaust gas will cause a very rough idle and can
cause stalling if to much is introduced into the combustion chamber

do you have that rough idle?

I am having the same problem with my 96 Sentra. I have 150,000 miles, and I have tried almost everthing. I have gone throught my Haynes book trying to find any info, but nothing is there.

I can not get my car inspected with the light on. What do I need to do next?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Scott

Have your EGR valve check and replace it,
if necessary.

Your check engine light must be off to bhe smog checked.
