2001 Nissan Sentra 78000miles, rebuilt title.

Our check engine light has been on for over 6 months, we went to Autozone & used the little orange computer thing & it told us the catalyic Converter, pressure something. We looked into replacing it but b/c of finicial reasons we werent going to touch it immediately. This past weekend the car turned on & started to choke, it didnt turn off at first & if we tried to acclerate it wouldnt go more than 20MPH, my husband decided to cut the catalyic off. Once that was done the car would still choke, & it would run over 20MPH but it took forever for it to go over the miles per hour. Once we shut off the car we couldnt turn it back on til it was cooled. We finally took it to a muffler guy & he looked at the catalyic & HA! It wasnt plugged. He said we just cut something off that didnt need to be cut. He then proceeded to tell us that now we may not be able to get an accurate diagnosis b/c of the "leak" in the exhaust after cutting the stupid thing off. People are telling us motor, oil, fuel filter a million things could be a factor. ON top of everything we cant find a decent mechanic to come by the house to look at it free, its crazy! Please can you guys help!
PS- about 3 weeks ago we had the alternator rebuilt, b/c the car completely broke down on us! This is just the worse we've seen as well.

What decent mechanic would drive to your home (miles on his car, and time out of his day) and try to diagnose your problem for free? You might need to rethink your logic, because that will never happen.

Well, this is a public forum, I am giving you my opinion whether you like it or not. I wasn't trying to be offensive in my first post, but in this one I am.

Any mechanic that will come to your home, diagnose your problem, and not expect a fee of some sort is insane. And in my opinion you are expecting way to much for no cost to you, pretty selfish.

Like I said you need to rethink your logic in this situation.
