2001 Nissan Sentra ECM says "No communications"

Hello, Have a 2001 Sentra 1.8L auto 77,500. Need to get thru emmisions test. Failed due to "No communications" with ECM. Went to Autozone to see if there scanner would work & had same results. Car runs great & no check engine lamp. Is it possible that there could be a loose connection at the ECM? Thanks

Yes it is possible unplug the ecm and plug back in check all fuses and grounds billymac

Took car in to local nissan dealer & they diagnosed it as a bad ECM, They also covered the repair under federal emmisions warranty 8/80 law. Although I had to bring up the law they woundnt have otherwise. Thanks for your response.
