1998 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Automatic 162000 miles

I had both replaced last November (2009) and everything was fine until around July of this year when I noticed that a dummy light was on my dash for the parking brake/battery. Being a "dummy" I thought, no way could my battery be bad, it was less than a year old. Two weeks ago, my car died and my mechanic friend told it was time for a new alternator again. I'm trying to find a reason why it would have died after 10 months. Is the belt bad? Is it a wiring problem? Maybe a fuse or something? I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Thanks.

It sound's like it was just a defective alternator that happens sometimes. Where did you get the alternator that only lasted 10 months from?

My grandfather in CA owns an alternator/generator shop and sent it out to me. Actually, I think it was from a warehouse in PA that he uses.

Well nothing is perfect and thing's fail when they fail I have had to fix brand new car's that just arrived from the factory. So give that new alternator a try and see how it goes.
