Electrical problem
1997 Nissan Sentra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When putting the battery back, the positive side made sparks. Why did it do that if it was put back the right way?

Hi loweamber28,

If the doors are opened or any other electrical components are turned on while installint the battery terminals, sparking would occur as power is being used. The security system would also caus e that and minimal sparking is normal as it would occur only for the short time to initialise the security system.

The Positive terminal should be installed before the negative, which is first out and last in. This is to avoid accidental shorting when tightening the terminal.
