Hi. Why does my little two-door 1993 Nissan Sentra E (3318 lbs) weigh 300-400 lbs. more than a 4-door current Nissan Sentra (eg 2009 2897 lbs) ? Where is the extra weight - panels, frame? Can anyone explain? Are modern cars' crumple zones more efficient than my 93 Sentra's? Is the extra weight due to thicker frame?

Today's cars are made lighter for better fuel economy. Yes, the frame, body panels, and engine components are made using a slightly thicker steel, and the newer cars use as much aluminum as they cam.
