Engine Performance problem
2007 Nissan Micra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 35 K miles

Recently my nissan micra has a lack of acceleration. It can't get up hills very well and as soon as I start going up one, my speed completely drops and I have to drop down to second or even first gear to get anywhere! Also when I try to accelerate in a low gear, my engine just roars and hardly speeds up :( I don't really have a clue about cars, so is there anything I can do myself to sort the problem or is it best to take it to a garage? All help appreciated!

Lack of acceleration, chugging, hesitating, bogging, misfiring etc. Could be caused by one of the following below:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it.
