2003 Nissan Maxima Car rattling noise

When I started up my car in the morning it made a loud rattling noise for about 15 sec and spewed a whole lot of smelly smoke out. I took it to the dealer and they found no issues. What could this have been? Is it a warning for a major problem? Thanks.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SERPINTINE BELT TENSIONERS. WHEN THEY GET OLD, THE BELTS BEGIN TO ACT CRAZY, AND THE TENSIONERS MAKE NOISE. THE DEALER TRIED TO TELL ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW ALTENATOR ($400), BUT I SAID NO, AND ORDERED A TENSIONER. I PUT IT ON, AND PROBLEM SOLVED.
