My maxima has been making grinding noises while driving the car and presently the car refuses to back up easily as the rear driver side wheel appears to be locked up and being moved by the rest of the car while in reverse, but seems to move easily when placed in drive except for the gringing noise which continues to come from this wheel. I have inspected the rotar and brake shoes and noticed that the the brake shoes are wearing dramatically and the rotar appears to be glazed, when moving the rotar counter clockwise the rotar moves freely, but grinds somewhat and when I attempt to move the rotar in a clockwise direction the rotat seems to move for approximately a couple of inches before locking tightly and making it very difficult to move at all. Do you think that I would be safe in replacing the rotar and brake shoes or do you think that there may also be a problem with the wheel bearing/hub to take into consideration?

There might be some damage to the bearing if that wheel has gotten very hot from the brake dragging. Too much heat and the grease will melt out and the bearing will run dry. When you replace the rotor and pads be sure to clean and lubricate the caliper so it all works as it should.
