How can I check to see if I have a leak in a vacuum hose. My 1999 nissan altima is panting when it idles I believe its a bad egr valve and or fuel filter since they have never been replaced, but my local mechanic seems to believe he hears hissing in the right side of the engine where the air filter is. I heard the same hissing on the left side too so I disagree with him, but I would like to check the hoses to make sure before I buy parts I dont need. It has a brand new air filter and has been recently tuned up with all new plugs wires ect. How can I check hoses with minimum labor

Carefully spray around the area with carb cleaner. When you hit a leak, the engine idle will change. Some cars have alot of intake noise, so if you hear it all around it could be normal
